How Can Massage Therapy Help Reduce Pain?
There are many reasons people seek out massage therapy and reducing pain is one of them. Registered Massage Therapy (reserved title by the College of Massage Therapists of BC) has been shown by various studies to decrease levels of all different kinds of pain in the body. Here’s how your RMT can help you:
Medical History:
On your first visit with your Massage Therapist, you can expect them to take you through a medical history to fully understand your past and present health needs.
Physical Assessment:
Based on your history, your therapist will then take you through a physical assessment to further understand your pain, where it’s coming from and how they can best address the issue.
Treatment:
Your RMT will then begin treatment consisting of many different techniques under the scope of the College of Massage Therapists of BC. These techniques can include (but are not limited to) Swedish Massage, fascial release techniques, light joint mobilizations, stretching and strengthening techniques, etc.
Homecare and recommendations:
The therapist will create and communicate a treatment and homecare plan of action to help continue your care and get you returning to function or attaining your goals as quickly as possible.
Education:
Throughout your appointment, the RMT will be in constant communication with you making sure you’re comfortable, that you understand what they’re doing and how it relates to your pain. It’s your body and you deserve to know what’s going on. We’re dedicated to helping you achieve your goals!
