Safety Plan

Back in Motion Safety Plan

The health and safety of our clients and staff is Back in Motion’s #1 priority.

Several weeks ago, Back in Motion made the difficult decision to suspend in-clinic appointments, to prevent the spread of coronavirus to our clients and staff. Now that the COVID-19 restrictions have been eased, we have resumed in-clinic services on May 19, 2020.

Our Internal Health & Safety Committee has developed and implemented a comprehensive Safety Plan, to make our clinics safe for clients and staff. We have made changes to the facilities, operational and administrative processes:

– Plexiglass barriers at reception
– Daily janitorial services in all locations
– Hourly disinfecting of high-touch surfaces
– Traffic flow marked on floors: walking “lanes” and “no go” zones
– Hand sanitizing stations
– Informative signage throughout the clinic and washrooms
– Staff dedicated to gym hygiene and monitoring of the physical distancing guidelines
– Treatment rooms will be sanitized between every appointment

– Screening of all clients both prior to arrival and upon arrival at our clinics
– Modified assessment and treatment protocols
-Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worn by staff when physical contact with clients is required
-Limited number of people in the offices and reception area
– 10-minute gap between appointments to reduce volume of clients and allow for complete sanitization between appointments
– Staggered appointment schedules to ensure clients do not arrive/leave the clinics at the same time
– We will continue to offer Telehealth Services, which may be combined with in-clinic appointments.

– Safety protocols developed based on guidance provided by BC Centre for Disease Control, WorkSafeBC and each clinician’s professional regulatory body
– Training provided to all staff on cleaning and safety protocols
– Review of procedures will be undertaken at regular intervals (to begin with, weekly then progressing to monthly).

What should you know before coming to your appointment?

Clients booking an appointment will be asked the following questions:

1. Are you experiencing any of the following?:

          a. Mild to moderate shortness of breath
          b. Inability to lie down because of difficulty breathing
          c. Chronic health conditions that you are having difficulty managing because of difficulty breathing

2. Do you have flu, chills, cough, shortness of breath or COVID-like symptoms?  COVID symptoms include fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat and painful swallowing, stuffy or runny nose, loss of sense of smell, headache, muscle aches, fatigue, loss of appetite, vomiting or diarrhea.

3. Have you travelled outside of Canada in the last 14 days?

4. Have you provided care or had close contact with someone with a confirmed case of COVID 19?

  • If “Yes”, did you wear the required and/or recommended PPE according to the type of duties you were performing (e.g., goggles, gloves, mask and gown or N95 with aerosol generating medical procedures when you had close contact with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19?

5. Have you been tested for COVID-19 and the results are pending?

If you answer “yes” to any of the above questions, you will be directed to speak with our COVID Team Lead, to ensure it is safe for you to come to in-clinic appointments.

Healthcare workers who have been treating COVID-19 patients, strictly following PPE protocols and are asymptomatic, may book appointments in-clinic, and will be asked to follow the guidelines outlined below.

As part of the Plan to keep everyone safe, we are asking the following of our clients:

– wear a face mask to protect yourself and others. If it is not possible to keep 2 metres of physical distance, Back in Motion requires that masks are worn. Clients are encouraged to bring their own mask and if they do not have one upon arrival, they will be provided with one at reception. If a client declines to wear a mask or is unable to due to a medical condition, consult with the COVID team lead to discuss alternatives.
– wash your hands frequently for 20-30 seconds with soap and water
– cancel your appointment if you are feeling sick (fever, cough, flu-like symptoms)
– arrive on time for your appointment (no earlier than 5 minutes):
~ if driving, please wait in your vehicle if you arrive earlier
~ if using transit, plan to arrive on-time, wait outside until your appointment time
– maintain physical distancing guidelines
– follow traffic flow signs marked on floor
– wipe down your equipment before and after use
– use the hand sanitizing station when entering and leaving the facility
– cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when they cough or sneeze and throw used tissues in the trash. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow, not your hands. Wash your hands after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing
– If you belong to a vulnerable health group (elderly, compromised immune system, respiratory illness, etc.) please consider using our Telehealth services. One of our clinicians would be happy to help you decide what’s right for you. Alternatively, you may request to book for the first or last appointments of the day, to avoid being in contact with too many people.
