ICBC Physiotherapy Services
Have you been in a car accident? Back in Motion Health has physiotherapy services to support you in your recovery journey.
About ICBC Physiotherapy Services
Motor vehicle accidents are more common than you think; Between 2013 and 2022, an average of 82,800 people per year sustained injuries from an average of 289,500 yearly ICBC-reported crashes. Whether minor or major, motor vehicle accidents can cause injuries that affect the daily lives of motorists all over British Columbia.
When rehabilitating an injury from a motor vehicle accident, a physiotherapist can be a great help to reduce pain and prevent further injuries. Back in Motion Health provides ICBC physiotherapy services to aid you in your motor vehicle accident injury recovery. We welcome patients from across the Lower Mainland at our locations in Vancouver, Richmond, Coquitlam, Surrey-Newton, Abbotsford and North Vancouver.
Why Seek Physiotherapy After a Car Accident?
Accidents are stressful, and there is no denying that adrenaline often plays a part in keeping you upright and alert following impact. While injuries from car accidents are not always severe in appearance, they can severely impact the victim’s life over time.
If you have been in an accident, a physiotherapist can be helpful in assisting you in your recovery from the following:
- Whiplash
- Back pain
- Neck pain
- Shoulder/elbow/wrist pain
- Hip/knee/ankle pain
- Fractures, sprains, and strains
- Pre and post-surgery rehabilitation
- Concussions
A skilled physiotherapist can help with many aspects of your recovery and rehabilitation journey.
Physiotherapists can help find the root cause of pains and aches, stiffness, and newfound limitations in motion and design a physiotherapy program to help get you back to your day-to-day activities.
ICBC physiotherapy is not a magic cure for all injuries and it requires work, but certain exercises, stretches, and therapies can help alleviate your pain and reduce it over time, making your daily life more manageable.
While some surgeries post-accident may be inevitable depending on the severity of your injuries, a well-tailored physiotherapy regimen can help heal tears and strains that would have required surgery before a physiotherapist’s intervention.
It’s normal to lose some ability when injured. Muscle stiffness, pains, strains, and pains can impair your body’s normal functions, and delaying treatment only makes those issues worse. With the help of ICBC physiotherapy, you may be able to return to your pre-accident range of motion and see little-to-no after-effects from the motor vehicle accident in which you were involved.
Rehabilitating injuries is a time-sensitive issue. An improperly handled injury can lead to poor healing and complications down the line. With a physiotherapist’s assistance in your recovery, you increase your chances of healing well and avoid complications associated with delayed healing.

Frequently Asked Questions About ICBC-Covered Physiotherapy
You must file a claim with ICBC. Where fault lies in the accident does not matter; if you were injured in a motor vehicle accident, you qualify, even if you were a cyclist or pedestrian.
Once you have filed your claim with ICBC, you can start any treatment under ICBC’s pre-approved treatment list. You then have 3 months to start and complete your treatment plan. The quicker you seek out a physiotherapist, the bigger the benefits as you will be able to complete more visits and address any issues as soon as possible.
25 sessions of a minimum of 20 minutes are covered.
Because Back in Motion offers direct billing to ICBC, you will incur no out-of-pocket cost when seeking physiotherapy under your pre-approved treatment costs. If you seek longer appointments than those covered by ICBC, you will need to pay the difference, but Back in Motion can provide you with receipts to submit to your private insurance provider.
When booking an appointment, you will need your personal health number (PNH) and your ICBC claim number.

WorkSafeBC Claims
Workplace injuries are usually due to trauma or overuse. If you have been injured as a result of a workplace activity, our team of experts at Back in Motion can perform a comprehensive assessment and develop a treatment plan to reduce your symptoms and rehabilitate your injury.
If your claim is approved by WSBC, your initial assessment is 100% covered with a WorkSafeBC Claim number. Once your claim has been accepted by WorkSafeBC, the full treatment cost of your appointments will be funded (within the approved time parameters). When you are ready, your physiotherapist will work with you, your employer, physician, and WorkSafeBC Case Manager to develop a safe and appropriate return to work plan. If your claim has been denied or is disallowed, the expenses will need to be covered by the Client.
