The Different Types of Massage Therapy
At Back in Motion Health, we take great pride in the diversity of our team of physio specialists, recognizing that each member brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the table. Our team includes:
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage aims to treat chronic tension in muscles that are typically more difficult to reach. The massage therapist uses slow strokes and deep finger pressure to effectively address areas affected by pain or discomfort. It is usually recommended for treating muscle-related issues, such as soreness, injury, intense pain and tightness.
Sports Massage
If you have been dealing with pain or discomfort from the excessive use of a certain muscle, sports massage may be the ideal type of massage for you. In this treatment, massage therapists will perform strokes aimed to improving your circulation, which can greatly contribute to the healing process of muscles affected by repetitive movement.
Relaxation Massage
As the name suggests, this type of massage focuses on promoting an overall sense of relaxation in the body. Instead of using deep strokes that are commonly used for healing purposes, relaxation massage is a smooth and gentle approach to relieve muscular tension.
Prenatal Massage
Prenatal massage aims to help pregnant women deal with the pain and discomfort that can be experienced during pregnancy. Massage therapists will use mild pressure, focusing on areas that are more commonly affected, such as lower back, hips and legs. In this type of massage, adaptations to both the techniques and table used are made to better accommodate pregnant women.
Postnatal Massage
This type of massage is designed to help women after childbirth. It aims to promote physical and emotional benefits, helping mothers recover from the strains of pregnancy and labour. The massage consists of very soft and broad strokes that can be adapted according to the needs of each patient.
Benefits of Massage Therapy
Massage therapy can bring numerous physical and psychological benefits to you. These can include:
Pain Reduction
With deep strokes in affected areas, massage therapy can improve blood circulation, which contributes to the healing process and pain reduction of a wide range of conditions.
Stress Management
Massage therapy can greatly contribute to stress management by promoting the relaxation of muscles, tendons and joints and reducing discomfort in the body.
Improved Mental Health
The manipulation of soft tissues can contribute to the reduction of cortisol levels and stress hormones, helping patients improve their physical and mental health.
Headache Relief
Those who suffer from headaches and migraines can also benefit from professional massage therapy. Professionals can tackle specific muscles of the head and face to reduce pain and promote healing.
Enhanced Flexibility
By improving blood circulation, massage therapy can contribute to the transport of oxygen and nutrients to your muscles, which promotes healing and enhances flexibility.
