The Benefits of Kinesiology and Active Rehabilitation
Have you been injured in a car accident? Are you suffering from an illness that’s limiting your mobility and function? Are you looking for a way to speed up your recovery process and get back to your favourite activities or sports? If so, kinesiology and active rehabilitation might be right for you. Here’s an overview of what active rehab is and how it could benefit you.
What’s Active Rehabilitation?
Active rehabilitation is a recovery program that utilizes exercise and movement to help individuals recover as quickly as possible. Unlike other rehabilitation treatments, such as massage and physiotherapy, where you’re being worked on or manipulated, active rehabilitation encourages self-initiated movement and active participation in the exercises. With active rehab, you activate your own muscles through stretching and strengthening exercises, led by a kinesiologist, to restore mobility and function.
Suitable for Many People
Active rehabilitation is suitable for people of all ages, genders and fitness levels. Whether you’re recovering from a sports injury, were recently in a car accident or are on long-term disability (LTD) and need help returning to work, active rehab can benefit you.
It’s an excellent approach for healing injuries to joints, soft tissue sprains and strains. It helps with back and neck pain, knee and ankle pain, shoulder dysfunction, concussion, balance issues and more. It’s a treatment that focuses on restoring functionality, reducing pain and improving your overall quality of life.
What’s an Active Rehab Session Like?
During your first visit, a kinesiologist will examine your past medical and exercise history, overall fitness and functional limitations. They’ll develop a personalized program based on your needs to include mobility, strength, flexibility, functional and cardiovascular exercises. Movements could include squats, burpees, push-ups, planks, curls, calf raises and more.
